No, you won’t be making a full-scale redesign of your living room, but there are a few little tweaks that will transform it in terms of style and look. To stay in the present, here are some current ideas from experienced interior designers.
Layered texture is the biggest style and it’s going to stay with us into 2024, according to the designer Rebecca Ward. Do not do this too much – pieces with removable parts work best.
1. Invest in a Good Sofa
Call it the living room, family room, lounge – the sofa will never be out of place in any gathering area. See exciting sofa designs that merge style with utility!
Before you select a sofa, do your research on the room, the style of furniture, and whether it is permanent (high ceilings, etc.). Buying a luxurious couch, that may appear too small in a large room with tall ceilings, without taking into account the scale and volume. Tape your room up with painter’s tape so you can measure correctly.
2. Create a Comfortable Seating Area
It is the room that everybody – guests or HGTV – will visit when it is in your home. So it needs to be function and look-alike.
Use more floor space with a sunken dining set around a fireplace or bay window, such as this sweet little nook. When planning this type of arrangement try to design the room around a very obvious point of interest, like a fireplace or bookshelf, without compromising walkways and storage.
AD PRO Directory member Devon Wegman of Devon Grace Interiors in Chicago thinks a moody blue helps to warm up without ruining the calm of a neutral room.
3. Add a Cozy Rug
A living room area rug can brighten and decorate your living room and help to bring the decor together, as it brings consistency with your furniture arrangements and gives a strong support structure.
And, if your wood floors are natural-colored, choose a rug that goes with them to accent and integrate your wood features and connect the room together. 7. Think Outside the Box
And whether it is the living room, the sitting room, the family room, meeting rooms allow you to be unique. While neutrals are most appropriate for large furniture for this room, big bolder pieces of color are eye catching too.
When your ceiling is high enough, you can also cram in an oversized art piece to match your furniture (just be sure it doesn’t overwhelm the space). Otherwise this could easily be visual clutter in the room.
8. Sniff a Bit of Grandma Core Add a Bit of Grandma Core
Designers get more experimental with textures this year. They are mixing wood and metal together and applying opposite welts to furniture pieces; it makes a statement and elevates the traditional or modern space with ease, says Madeline Hemingway of Madeline Hemingway Design.
Create a Grandma Core vibe in your living room with handmade pieces like embroidered pillows and cross stitched wall hangings that you or family members made, vintage dishes or family photos, etc.
